Revised Syllabus for the Junior Certificate Examination.Phased Introduction – Phase 2 FOR THE ATTENTION OF SCHOOLS WHICH DID NOT OPT TO IMPLEMENT THE REVISED SYLLABUS FROM 2003/04
The revised syllabus document is set out in three sections. In each section, the main topics and sub-topics are described, along with the associated learning outcomes.
A set of explanatory notes was sent to each school in May 2003. These notes explain the major changes to the syllabus, both in content and teaching approach.
Schools adopting the revised syllabus which are currently adequately equipped to provide the existing Junior Certificate Science curriculum are entitled to a resource grant per Junior Science laboratory of €3500.
Other schools may be entitled to an enhanced rate of grant based on an assessment of their needs by reference to the Indicative Resource List (see below).
The Indicative Resources List sets out an indicative list of the minimum resources needed to implement the hands-on approach to practical work, as required in the revised Junior Certificate Science syllabus. The list is neither prescriptive nor exhaustive. Valid alternatives are available for some of the items listed.
